Interior painting for Staten Island houses
Interior painting and plaster repair for Staten Island houses. Paint does not hide what is under it.
Painting a house rather than an apartment means more of everything: more wall, more trim, more ceiling, and more rooms that have been painted at different times by different people.
It also means it can be done in stages while you stay in the house, which is how most of this work actually runs here.
The preparation
Old coatings. A house that has been painted every decade carries a stack of coats, some of them oil under later latex. Where that stack is failing, adding another coat fails with it. It comes back to something sound first.
Walls that move. Drywall seams that have opened, nail pops, and settlement cracks above openings. These are opened and repaired rather than filled flush, because a filled crack in a moving joint reappears along the same line inside a year.
Trim. Baseboards, casings and rails in a house of any age carry enough paint to have lost their edges. Where the profile has closed up it is taken back far enough to return the detail.
Wondering whether the walls need repair before paint? We can tell you at the visit.
Call to talk through the roomsWhat the exterior does to the interior
A detached house has outside walls on every side, which an apartment mostly does not. South facing rooms fade faster and need a different sheen decision. Cold exterior walls in winter do not take paint the same way, and we plan the order of rooms around that rather than working through the house in a straight line.
Room by room
Most houses here get painted in stages: the rooms you can empty first, then the ones you live in. We work to that rather than asking you to move out, and we contain each room so the dust from sanding does not travel through the rest of the house.

Call to talk through the roomsQuestions people ask
Can you do it a few rooms at a time?
Yes, and it is the usual way out here. It costs slightly more in setup than doing the whole house at once, and it lets you stay in the house and spread the work, which for most families is the better trade.
Do you paint ceilings and trim as part of it?
They are priced separately so you can see them, because on a house the trim is often the larger half of the labour and people are entitled to know that before they decide.
